    Reviewed by Drake Lyles

Have you ever read a book that involves a young boy running away from his father? Probably, but have you read a book about a young boy running away with a slave down the Mississippi river with a crazy old man and a very literate young man who swindles everyone out of there money? If you have ever read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, then you have probably heard of the character Huckleberry Finn. Well this book takes place in the same time as Tom Sawyer, only in the point of view from Huck Finn. Huck’s father finds out where Huck lives, and with the slave Jim, he runs away from home on a raft and canoe. On their travels they meet up with a crazy old man and a young man running away from the law. The young man claims to be the duke of Bridgewater after the old man claims to be an ancient king. They swindle a town out of their money, but Huck and Jim then are able to escape from the crazy pair, while Jim is captured by slave trackers. Huck then meets up with Tom Sawyer and rescues Jim, but not while trying to do everything the hard way and meeting trouble every day. This book was well written and well though of, but if you don’t like to spend time reading, then don’t read this book because it may take some time to finish. This book earns a 5/5, because of its well though out structure and Mark Twain’s way of writing.

Have you ever read a book that makes you think? One that makes you stop to think of all that you’ve read so far. To kill a mockingbird is that book. To kill a mockingbird is a realistic fiction book set in the twentieth century.
The main things in this book are that Jean Louise Finch, the main character, and her Jem meet a boy named Dill. Dill gets them to mess with their neighborhood hermit Arthur ‘’Boo’’ Radley. They go to great lengths to see him.
Then there is a trial against Tom Robinson, a black worker. He is accused of taking advantage of Mayella Ewell. Atticus Finch, Jean Louise’s father, is his lawyer.
Later in the book, their Aunt Alexandra comes to live with them. During her stay, she gives Jean Louise enlightment on her way to young adulthood.
In my opinion, the Tom Robinson trial was the best part of the book. It really made me think about whether he was guilty or not. Atticus also beautifully defended them, tearing the witness’s walls down.
To kill a mockingbird is a wonderful book that you won’t be able to put down. It really makes you think about life and how we live as people.

If you have ever heard of spiders as big as you, dwarves that are greedy, and battles to the death, this book is for you. This book is a fantasy because it involves wizards, goblins, and dwarves. At the beginning Bilbo doesn’t want to journey from his hobbit hole into the dark unknown regions, ruled by the dragon, Smaug.
A band of homeless dwarves shows up at his house to invite him as a burglar on their journey. They have to perilously pass through the Misty Mountains with the threat of goblins and wargs around every turn, to reach the Lonely Mountain where there final challenge awaits. The fight with Smaug for the horded gold will be legendary, or could another battle be worse. I really liked this book because it was an interesting idea. My favorite battle is the final fight to the death. The dragons, wizards, and hobbits will enchant you in this charming quest for treasure. And revenge?

Have you ever read a book that you just couldn’t wait to turn to the next page? Then Catching Fire is the book for you! Catching Fire is realistic fiction and the book after the Hunger Games. Katniss is back from the arena, but she is in trouble for what she did with the berries. She is threatened by President Snow for her whole family, including Gale to suffer from her actions. Katniss made it out of the arena the first time, but what about this time? In Catching Fire it’s the 75th Hunger Game and there is a twist to who can be a tribute. Peeta and Katniss go from district to district on the victory tour and when they do Katniss gets herself in more trouble. She has started an uprising and when she gets back from the arena her district had been bombed. I loved Catching Fire because I also loved The Hunger Games, but I also like how in the book there was always something going on. I think you should defiantly read Catching Fire.

  62. The Wreckers
    By Iaine Lawrence
    A Review By Carson Long

Have you ever read a deep, interesting book with a plot that makes you think? If so, you would enjoy The Wreckers! This book by Iaine Lawrence is historical fiction and action\adventure. It has a lot to offer entertainment-wise.

To summarize the plot, primary protagonist John Spencer is deliberately shipwrecked on a jagged series of rocks along a coastline known as the Tombstones. The men who wrecked him and his father’s ship execute the sailors that crawled ashore from the wreck. After being pursued down the coast and into a village where the wreckers catch him, John is taken in by a wealthy man and his niece who live in the nearby village farther down the coast from the bay the wreck occurred in. Throughout the book John tries to rescue his captive father from a makeshift “prison” selected by a wrecker. As John becomes ensnared in a plot to secure smuggled gold his father had, he realizes he is quickly running out of time to find his father before the wreckers don’t need him anymore to find the gold.

My opinion of the book is a positive one; it has a lot to offer like John’s harrowing escapes and adventures throughout the coast of Cornwall and the plot to find the gold. It is historical fiction because the violent sense of wrecking as portrayed in this book still goes on today in less-developed parts of Africa among other parts of the world.

To conclude, The Wreckers is an engrossing and historically accurate series of flawlessly combined events to wrap the reader into the plot as much as the characters themselves.

    Author: Thomas J. Dygard

The book Game Plan is about never giving up, taking a hit, and never backing down and that’s why I chose that book. This book is fiction because there’s some stuff in the book that’s not real. Near the beginning of the book, beano became coach for the Barton high Tigers. He got strait A’s, and got a nice college. At first they didn’t want him on his team until they got to know him. Near the middle of the story Marty tucker quit the team and tried to play basketball but he sucked, when he quit the team Todd Bowman became QB.
After a while, Beano kept begging him to come back, and he did, and at the end they won. I like the book because I like playing football. TRY your hardest and give it your 110% because there will always be someone to take your spot.
